Why I Voted For The Road Bond

The Morgan County Council passed on a 4-3 vote approving a $1.5 million road bond. This council member has specific reasons for the approval that the citizens of the county are entitled to know. Borrowing money in these financially trying times is always a daunting and challenging task. It would be foolish to borrow unless the risk was very low and the benefits were high. First, the risk. The county budget is not a simple general fund from which moneys are dealt out as the Council deems appropriate. The budget is segregated into separate accounts. Many of the accounts may be spend...

Thanks For Senior Help
Thank you to the Extension Service for providing Morgan County the opportunity to have our tax forms completed for free. Thank you to the employees of 1st Bank for donating their time and talents to perform this service. They are trained and able to complete this in a short amount of time in the comfort of the computer room at the library. What a great service they provide. I hope others will take advantage of this service so we can continue to have it available to us. Thanks again, Louise Wilson

Thanks For The Memories
As the Lady Trojans finished off their season last Friday and we cried with and for the team, especially the seniors, it was also “Senior” (citizen) night for the scorekeeper. After “tagging” along with the basketball and volleyball (and softball for several years) teams, it is time to pass the scorebook to someone else. I am trading my maroon and white shirts for the sage green shirts worn by the missionaries at Heber Valley Girls Camp. The ride has been a great one. It wasn’t always a victory, but I tried to see the lessons learned even if it was by losin...

Incompetence?
The blunders of the Morgan County Council are non stop. Trying to rewrite the United States Constitution and getting the tax payers of Morgan County, sued to the tune of $40,000. A civics lesson to the Morgan County Council might be in order. Morgan County is a part of Utah and Utah is part of the United States, County government can not rewrite the United States Constitution. Brent Fenstermaker Morgan

The Opinion of The Morgan County News - The Community Choir
By Don Anderson Last Friday, I had the privilege of attending the Constitution Appreciation Dinner hosted by the Republican and Constitution parties. It was a nice evening with attendance by the Lt. Governor, Representative Rob Bishop, and other notables of Utah politics. Part of the evening was a wonderful performance from the Morgan Community Choir. I particularly enjoyed their singing of the National Anthem after the Pledge of Allegiance. The National Anthem is difficult to sing, and the choir performed it in a stirring fashion that set the tone for the evening. They also performe...

Thanks After Surgery
I don’t know how to begin to thank everyone that has helped me and my family in the past four months since my brain surgery, so this is my attempt. To start, I would like to thank the families that cared for Deagan and Blakelee. It was one less thing for me to worry about. Thanks to all the visitors I had while in the hospital before and after surgery. Special thanks to Jordache, Moroni, Dallas and Jeff for the blessings. Thank you to the many ladies who brought dinner to us while I was recovering at home. (Too many to thank each individually.) Special thanks to Wardell Brothers Constru...

Thanks to Morgan Citizens
To the people of Morgan County, What a great community we live in! In this great area people still wave to their neighbors as they are driving by, they care about others, they show unconditional love and support. This was exemplified Saturday night at the Kyler Christiansen benefit through monetary contributions, donations of items, and donation of time and services. I am a transplant from Colorado, but I love living in this valley. As I went around to different businesses to put up posters or solicit help the response was so positive. People went out of their way to help and find out i...

Love of the Library
Okay, I confess…I am a library lover. Libraries have always been one of my favorite places. As a lifelong resident of Morgan County, I remember going to the county library when it was still one room located in the county building. Bette Mecham or Jackie Stone would greet me as I entered. I loved wandering through the bookshelves. It was here that I discovered Dorothy’s adventures in Oz. This wonderful place also introduced me to the books of Louisa May Alcott and Laura Ingalls Wilder. My mother never quite understood my fascination with the library. My stack of 8, 9, or 10 books ma...

Thanks fro Coach Christiansen
A big thank you to all that attended the benefit for Kyler last Saturday. We are truly amazed at the giving, compassionate people of Morgan County. We are looking at making modifications in our existing house, or starting over on one level. We have had Kyler regulating his medication for behavior and also enduring another surgery on both hips. The money you contributed will go towards paying his hospital bills and buying a lift that will help us move him from one place to another. We will also use it to provide a place for him to enjoy in our home. One of the biggest battles is how t...

Reasons People Should Run For Office
Dear Editor, It is an election year again. If you have ever thought of running for office, now is the time to get your packets, get your signatures and turn them in by the deadline. One has to wonder why no one runs for office in Morgan County. I have some thoughts about this. Some people that hold offices sacrifice quite a bit. While others who are in office, sit back and get paid big bucks for doing what, having the cleanest desk in the building, because they don’t do anything. I have heard from some people who have held elected positions in the past, that the citizens of Morgan Co...

Buyers and Seller Beware
First of all, we would like to commend The Morgan County News for the outstanding coverage you are giving us of what is happening in Morgan County. Specifically, we appreciate your coverage of the County Council Meeting recently entitled “Barriers to Development in Morgan County Geologic Hazards Ordinance”. This coming Tuesday, February 2, is the Morgan County Council’s next meeting on this subject. Some interesting facts most citizens of Morgan County may not be aware of are the following: 1.The Geologic Hazards Ordinance has grown from 8 to 87 pages and could incorporate every parcel...
