Local artist Kim Corpany is known all over the world for her bronze sculptures set at prominent points.  She discovered her talent for and love of art early on.  In kindergarten, she determined a picture she was assigned to color wasn’t quite right.  She drew in a different black line and then colored it in.  Her teacher scolded her for not coloring in the lines even after attempts to explain the imperfections.  Disheartened, she took the picture home.  Upon review, her mother explained Kim should keep coloring the way she thought best.  

 
On May 11 the kindergarten students joined the FFA students for a farm field trip at Morgan’s Diamond D Ranch. They learned about horses, cows, baby animals, crops, roping, barrel racing, and played keyhole and goat tying. They had lots of fun and learned much. The FFA students loved helping the kids learn about animals.

On February 7th the annual blood drive, organized by the year’s Sterling Scholars, was held at Morgan High School. The staff from Mountain Star Blood Services was very professional and ran everything smoothly. Ninety-seven students and community members donated blood making an all-time record of blood donations at Morgan High School. 

I wanted to share some stories and memories from  Charley Pentz.

He told me about time he was hauling hay, his elevator was up Lost Creek, and all his boys were busy with sheep and other stuff, his sister Jewell’s young boys helped him. He said he got up on the truck load of hay and pitched it all off onto his haystack for them, with a pitch fork.

Weather

The weather was beautiful across the entire state.  The skies were sunny and the temperatures were comfortable.  You couldn’t ask for a more pleasant day to hunt deer.

The Morgan girls basketball team invaded “The Nest”, as the newly built gymnasium at the brand new Wasatch High school is called. The Trojans made themselves right at home, stinging the Lady Wasps in a non-region game on Tuesday December  21 by a score of  52-27.

Hillarie Waller took her first bull after drawing a out a tag in the Hardscabble area. She hunted for three days with her dad and brothers before filling her tag. They had seen a large bull on the first day, but it moved over the ridge before she could get into a position for a shot. On the third day she was hunting in the same area. She came across a large group of elk in a stand of pines. She took aim and bagged this huge elk.

The Smedleys and Smiths can truly be called pioneers of this area in Morgan County. Pioneers are visionaries for change and finding a better way, they are passionate enough about their vision to make a plan, and then they have the courage and the willingness to put all of their cards on the table in order to make their dream become reality. “If you aren’t willing to take a risk,” said Joanne, “you’ll never get anything done.”
