Gertrude Evelyn Koemel McEwen, age 86, passed away March 12, 2012 at the home of her daughter in Syracuse, surrounded by all her children.  She was born January 18, 1926 in Robstown, Texas to Walter Adolph Koemel and Clara Wilhelmina Magdalena Steger Koemel.  She married Earl James McEwen, December 2, 1944.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  She and Earl moved with their growing family from Texas to several places in Utah and Idaho settling in Ogden, Utah until moving to Mt. Green, Utah for retirement.

Today we said a tearful goodbye to Thane Park Rogers, an amazing father, grandfather, great grandpa and brother, after a valiant battle with cancer. Thane was born in Peterson, Utah on June 7, 1924, in his family’s home, to Thomas Park and Verda Hulet Rogers.

Betty Jean Lund passed away at age 84. She died on November 7, 2011 in Morgan, Utah.

 

Betty Jean Lund passed away at age 84. She died on November 7, 2011 in Morgan, Utah.

She was born Betty Jean Hinton to John Howard Hinton and Inez Mathews Hinton on April 22, 1927.  On Sept. 27, 1946, she married Howard L. Lund.  They enjoyed 65 beautiful years.

Our loving, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather passed to the other side of the veil to be with his sweetheart. Laurel Dean Rock passed away on November 12, 2011 from causes incident to age. Dean was born May 6, 1921, to Laurel and Leatha Phillips Rock in Morgan, Utah. He graduated from Morgan High School and LDS Seminary in 1940.

Rock Springs, WY - Keli Jo Hardy-Shook, 50, passed away July 23, 2011 at the Salt Lake City Regional Medical Center. She died from a sudden illness. Keli was born April 22, 1961 in Ogden, Utah to Val Dean and Carol Lee Hardy. She was a graduate of the Morgan High School class of 1979 and soon after met the love of her life, Dale Shook. Her and Dale wed on August 2, 1980 and moved to Wyoming following Dale’s work. Their daughter was born in 1984 where they became “three together forever”. They lived in Lyman and Evanston and later moved to Rock Springs where Keli worked various jobs until she earned her Associates Degree from Western Wyoming Community College. With that degree she began her career in office management and administrative assistance. These jobs included working at the local college, hospital, Schlumberger, and most recently IPS. Keli was a hard worker and valued her jobs and the people she worked with. During her time off she loved to be in the comfort of her home with her husband and her three Airedale Terriers. She loved her dogs as if they were her children. Keli was involved with the local Humane Society and helped any and all Airedales get rescued even if that meant she transported them to their new home across state lines. Keli also enjoyed camping and spending time with her family and friends.

Paul and Vanna Carter celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary recently with their family in Park City, Utah. Each of their children and spouses along with all grandchildren and great grandchildren were able to attend the weekend of fun with the exception of two grandsons serving LDS missions and a deceased great-granddaughter. The group were able to watch the U.S. Olympic Aerial Freestyle Show at Olympic Park as well as other daytime activities such as riding the alpine coaster, frisbee golf at the top of the ski runs, and a family dinner hosted by their children at the Park City Grill.

Harvey J. Porter, formerly of Henefer will celebrate his 100th birthday this week.  He was born July 12, 1911 in Salt Lake City to Warren W. and Susan L. Florence Porter.  He married Faye Nielson on September 30, 1935 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Bonnie June Davis Malan will be celebrating her 80 birthday. She was born June 3, 1931, to Rulon Rees Davis and Polly Roghaar Davis, in Ogden, Utah.

She attended schools in Ogden and Idaho Falls, graduating from highschool there. She returned to Ogden in 1949 and attended Weber College.

On June 27, 1952, she married Ben H. Malan in the Logan L.D.S. Temple.

Bonnie was a professional artist in oils and has been a member of Western Art Guild and the Palette Club. She also illustrated for the “Children’s Friend” for 5 years.

Ben and Bonnie loved to travel the U.S. and many other countries. They served an LDS mission together in Nigeria, Africa. Ben passed away in 2006.

They have 3 children, 11 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.

She celebrated the day with family.

Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary in Morgan, Thursday, January 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 and Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 at the Porterville Church with Funeral Services following at 11:30.

Elsie Marjorie Luckey Mortenson 89, returned to her Heavenly father January 16, 2011.  She was born in Ogden, Utah on May 4, 1921 to James Willis Luckey and Elsie Fry Tonks.  
Marge married the love of her life Forrest Wayne Mortenson on September 13, 1937.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on June 6, 1949.

McQuown  --radio and television pioneer, prize-winning writer, ardent traveler, voracious reader, lover of the out-of-doors, a true Renaissance woman--  passed away on January 6 in San Francisco, California.  Born in Morgan, Utah, to Thelma Dickson and Curtis William Rogers, she is survived by her daughter, Eloise, San Francisco; her sisters, Marjorie Rogers Tueller (Jack) Bountiful, Utah; Florence Rogers Sowell (Wesley), Pocatello, Idaho; Sherolyn Rogers Jenkins (Larry) Morgan, Utah; and brother Bernell D. Rogers (Marjorie) of Torrance, California plus in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklyn King McQuown; her sister, Kathryn Rogers Whittier (Robert); and her parents Thelma and Curtis Rogers.
 

Funeral services will be held, Saturday, January 22, 12 noon, Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple St., SLC with a visitation  Sat. 10:30am to noon.  Burial:  Morgan Utah.  Contributions are suggested to your favorite charity.

Sharon Lee Radford, 74, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, after a short illness.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Nov 10, at 7 p.m. at Walker Mortuary, 45 W 200 N. Morgan, Utah. Friends and family may call at the mortuary from 6 to 7 p.m. prior to the services.

Arlo Dearden Palmer, 81, died Sunday, October 24, 2010 in Tremonton, Utah.  He was born February 4, 1929 in Ogden, Utah to Walter LeRoy Palmer and Ella Lithgoe Dearden. His siblings are Dean, Bessie and Fred (all deceased) and Keith, Valerie, Caroline and Tim.
