The city heard from a n armed services representative on Tuesday in council meeting and appointed Mayor Egbert as the liason for the community covenants team.  This program, which was originally established by the secreatary of the Army for active duty personnel has been adopted by the Utah National Guard and expanded to provide information and services to all military personell and their families.

Morgan City has engaged former Ogden Mayor Matthew Godfrey in a consulting contract to bring a hotel to the city.  The city council has been working for many years to entice a hotel to locate in the city with no results.  They recently completed a feasibility study for the area to help persuade developers to locate in the city.

City Mayor Jim Egbert and Council Members Shelly Betz and Tony London appeared before the county on Tuesday.  The city has been raising funds for more than a year and has raised more than $66,000 from county residents and businesses to date to build a splash pad in the county.  Member Betz said, “When the mayor and I were first elected there was the lack of a water facility here in Morgan County…We did a lot of field trips to visit splash pads…We talked Weber Morgan Health and the Department of Water Resources…We decided that this is something we absolutely could do in Morgan County and that is was possible through donations from the community.”  She reported that the splash pad design was developed through significant community input.  Splash pads are designed for children of all ages and they also work well for children with disabilities.

On Tuesday evening. Cub scout pack 181 held their monthly pack meeting.  This month’s theme was citizenship. The tour was conducted by Mayor Jim Egbert. They toured the city offices and council room and the Morgan County food pantry. The tour helps towards the scouts earning their Citizenship Award, explained parent, Annette Mortensen.  Afterwards they returned to the church and discussed what they had learned.

What brings people together?  It is typically an event centered on competition, or celebration, or charity, or remembering, or accomplishment.   American Cancer Society Relay for Life is one event that touches on all of these appeals to bring communities, families and individuals together.   Relay for Life is now in its 10th year in Morgan, and has earned its place on many people’s calendar as a tradition for many reasons.

At the city council meeting on Tuesday night the Morgan City council acted to amend an ordinance passed in 2007 relating to the historic district in Morgan.  The historic district includes the business district section of Commercial Street as well as areas behind these businesses.

Ken Durrant is in his third term serving on the Morgan School Board and is loving the experience. “ I have enjoyed every minute of it “ says Durrant. He is a lifelong resident of Morgan. His father was mayor of Morgan City and he graduated from Morgan High School. Durrant and his wife, Kris, have four children, three of which still live in Morgan, and eleven grandchildren.

Benjamin F. Smith,84, one of the original Utah pioneers, and one of the early settlers of Morgan County passed peacefully away at his residence in Morgan early Wednesday morning.

He is survived by his widow and the following children: Mrs. J. H. Dickson of Morgan; Mrs. William Ovard of Rexburg Idaho, and Frank Charles, William, Walter and Archie Smith all of Morgan.

The Morgan Board of Education is working closely with city and county officials in a combined effort to construct a bridge at the south end of Young Street.  During their monthly meeting held on October 12, the Board discussed options for the exact location of the bridge and how that design might influence the location of the new bus facility. Joining the Board in the discussion were Mayor Jim Egbert, County Council Chairman Sid Creager, and City Councilman Jeff Wardell.

The city council has been keeping their words consistent with their actions over the past several months.  After the city repeatedly expressed a strong commitment to rejuvenating Commercial Street, this week they have taken some actions to do just that through more beautification.

The city council held an informational meeting with county residents on Tuesday to discuss the potential of a splash pad, improvements to the playground equipment, and other improvements at Riverside Park.

 The Morgan High Class of 1943 met on Friday, July 15, 2005 at the Daughters of the Utah Pioneer building. They had a dinner, and talked of old times. Of the Class of 1943, there were 13 members of the class at the reunion.
