Clarence Dawson Nelson, 79, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Lakeview Hospital.  He was born on June 30, 1932 to Clarence Sherman and Florence Dawson Nelson in Ogden, Utah.  Clarence graduated from Ogden High School.  He moved to Morgan where he resided for 16 years before returning to Ogden where he has lived since.

Kassie Batty, daughter of Dave and Brenda Webster and the late Shane Batty will marry, Tayler James Fry, son of Dean and Becky Stokes, and Justin and Keri Fry.

Kassie graduated from Morgan High School in 2009. She has received her certified nurse assistant certificate and is currently working at Burchcreek Hospice and Home Care.

Morgan City has engaged former Ogden Mayor Matthew Godfrey in a consulting contract to bring a hotel to the city.  The city council has been working for many years to entice a hotel to locate in the city with no results.  They recently completed a feasibility study for the area to help persuade developers to locate in the city.

William Donald Welsh passed away peacefully in Kaysville, UT on Sunday, March 18, 2012, after a brief illness, just days short of his 88th birthday. Known by friends and family as Donald, he was born March 28, 1924 in Morgan, UT to Acy and Elizabeth Spendlove Welsh, the seventh of eight children. He was always proud to tell people he had been born in a log cabin.

Gertrude Evelyn Koemel McEwen, age 86, passed away March 12, 2012 at the home of her daughter in Syracuse, surrounded by all her children.  She was born January 18, 1926 in Robstown, Texas to Walter Adolph Koemel and Clara Wilhelmina Magdalena Steger Koemel.  She married Earl James McEwen, December 2, 1944.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  She and Earl moved with their growing family from Texas to several places in Utah and Idaho settling in Ogden, Utah until moving to Mt. Green, Utah for retirement.

Bonnie June Davis Malan passed away quietly at her home on Febrary 7, 2012, after a valiant fight with liver cancer.  She was born to Rulon R. and Polly Viola Rhoghaar Davis on June 3, 1931, in Ogden, UT.  Polly passed away three years later, and Bonnie was raised by an aunt and uncle,  Gladys and Reed Wight, in Ogden.

Shirley was raised in Farmington and Kaysville by her parents, Albert and Virginia Udy Epperson. She attended Davis High School until her family moved to Morgan, where they owned and operated the Morgan County News and the Summit County Bee. After graduating from Morgan High School, Shirley attended the University of Utah where she majored in journalism and lived in the Alpha Phi Sorority House. Shirley had beautiful red hair and a personality to match. In 1954, she was crowned as Salt Lake City’s Miss Flame, a beauty pageant held exclusively for redheads.

Communities and other law enforcers across the state mourn the loss of one of the police officers that died in a shooting that happened in Ogden earlier last week. The officer, Jared Francom (who was shot and killed in the tragic 6 officer shooting in Ogden) parents were originally from Morgan.

Today we said a tearful goodbye to Thane Park Rogers, an amazing father, grandfather, great grandpa and brother, after a valiant battle with cancer. Thane was born in Peterson, Utah on June 7, 1924, in his family’s home, to Thomas Park and Verda Hulet Rogers.

Sat. Nov. 5,  Deputy Peay was on the scene for 8 hours to assist in the wrecks that took place on I-84 in the canyon heading west bound. The wrecks happened about 6:30 A.M. when a semi jack knifed on the bridge due to icy road conditions. This caused a chain reaction involving 27 vehicles and 5 semi trucks wrecking.

Our sweet mom passed away October 26, 2011 at the Family Tree Assisted Living in Morgan. She was born October 5, 1924, to Juston Peter and Isabell Robinson Allred in Osgood, Idaho. She grew up in Osgood, graduating from Ammon High School in Idaho Falls.  After graduation, her family moved to Utah, settling in Liberty where she met her husband, Vernon J. Shaw.  They were married October 24, 1943, in Harrisville and later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.

A body, believed to be Alexis Rasmussen, was discovered in a grave in an isolated portion of Morgan County.  North Ogden Police Chief Polo Afuvai, said, “Late yesterday afternoon police were led to an undisclosed grave site in an isolated area of Morgan County by a confidential source.” at a press conference on October 19th. He added that the evidence and remains have been taken to the medical examiner to prove identity and to determine the cause of death.

Frank Martin Anderson celebrated his 80th Birthday at a family party on Friday. He was born 7 Oct. 1931 to Wesley V. Anderson and Helen Brown Anderson in Ogden and has been a life-long resident of Milton. 

He was awarded the “Elementary School Medallion” as the outstanding student at age 12. He graduated from Morgan High School and was chosen to attend Boys’ State in 1949.

Donald J. Anderton was born July 20th, 1923 in Henefer, Summit County, Utah to John Fredrick and Cheltina Elizabeth Jones Anderton. He died on October 4, 2011 at his home in Morgan, Utah surrounded by his family.

Deven Boyer and Nick McBride were married July 23rd at Solitude Mt Resort. Deven is from Morgan and graduated from the U of U. Currently she works for Chrysalis as an Advocate for people with disabilities. Nick is from Kaysville, also graduated from the U of U and is currently employed by Fidelity Investments in SLC. They have a home in Farmington and plan a wedding trip this fall. An open house from 7-9 is being held at the McBride home 996 Windsor Lane, Kaysville on July 30th. Please join us.
