When you have your last child leave your home, you realize that you are not an expert on anything related to raising children. Number six has just left the nest and graduated last week from Morgan High School.

“Create a plan...but remember - be prepared to change the plan!”, words of advice from a young Morgan High School graduate and who has followed her plan - and finding out that “plans change” - and Melissa Ovard has made the changes successfully by following her simple goals she made early in her life. Her story of how it “all came down” to leading a full and successful career now moving forward with confidence was told to the North Summit and Morgan High Schools’ Sterling Scholars at a Recognition Banquet hosted by Holcim, (US) Inc. The evening of March 29th Sterling Scholar Nominees from these two schools came with their parents to enjoy dinner with their families at Larry’s Chicken Inn in Morgan.

This section is for all us seniors in high school. It’s almost here guys, GRADUATION! It’s so crazy to think that we are close to the beginning of our lives. But I was thinking about something the other day, how many of us wanted to grow up really fast? I’ll admit, I was one of those five year olds who wanted to turn eighteen so I can make my own rules, my own money, and call my own shots.

Posterity of over 120, Doyle and Betty Heiner have spent a lifetime together building a family and giving service.   Together the Morgan couple raised eight children primarily in Morgan.  Those five daughters and three sons have given them too many grandchildren and great-grandchildren for them to keep up with exact numbers.

Words to live by: When in Bob and Rozann’s home you may read an inspirational thought or two such as: “Glance backward....Look heavenward....Reach outward.....Press onward....” by Thomas S. Monson, President of the LDS Church.

How many times has this sentence been said, “I hate all the drama!”? More than a billion times. How many times has this sentence been said, “I am going to stop gossiping.”? Not enough. The only way to stop “drama” is to make a change from within you. You need to be able to look at yourself and say, “I am going to make that change!” We can’t just sit around and think that someone else is going to fix the problem.

Most of you probably think if you have lived in Morgan for 30 years or more that you have earned your “ite” status as in Morganite.   A Morgan”ite” is someone who has lived in Morgan for more than 30 years.  “M”organic…is someone who has taken it past the “ite” status no matter how many years lived hear, and sometimes resorts to eccentricities in apparel or other areas of mind set!

Have you ever felt like that you are incapable of doing something? As if you aren’t strong enough or others will think less of you if you can’t do it? I can relate. Doubting yourself is second-guessing yourself, which will bring you down. I used to think that a lot of things were out of my reach or were out of my league.

“It has been a challenge. I get people asking me, ‘how do you do it?’, and I tell them, ‘truly, it’s a gift from God.’”

At first glance the Larsens appear to be just your average family, a group of loving, kind-hearted people. It would seem they don’t have a worry in the world; at least they seem average until you have the opportunity to hear their remarkable story.

Since my husband, Don, and I purchased The Morgan County News, we have published 32 newspapers, and it’s definitely been a lot of work. When that deadline is coming for the newspaper to go to the printer, it feels like… Do you ever have that dream where you’re running as hard as you can from something and you just can’t get away?
