Bayern Makes Serious Move to Keep Leroy Sané

Leroy Sané’s future at FC Bayern Munich appears to be entering a decisive phase. According to multiple reports, the German international has been presented with an official contract offer by the club—a deal shaped by the financial constraints currently facing the Bundesliga powerhouse.
Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, is pushing to extend Sané’s stay in Munich until the summer of 2028. The proposal reportedly has the backing of the club’s board of directors and supervisory board. However, as Kicker reports, the offer comes with a caveat: Sané would need to accept a pay cut in order to stay.
The 29-year-old winger is now at a career crossroads. With his current contract expiring at the end of the season, Sané is effectively playing for his future in Bavaria. “We’re happy that Leroy is in such good form right now—we need that, especially with Jamal Musiala out,” said Eberl following Bayern’s 3–1 win over FC Augsburg, a match in which Sané once again found the back of the net.
“Leroy doesn’t need to prove his value to us in individual games,” Eberl added, hinting at the club’s long-term commitment to the player. Still, Bayern isn’t the only team keeping a close eye on Sané. Premier League giants Arsenal are also reportedly interested in the dynamic forward.
Financially, Bayern is counting on significant income from upcoming competitions. Revenues from the Champions League and the high eight-figure guarantees associated with this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup in the United States are expected to play a crucial role in maintaining the current squad and potentially funding new signings.
Sané’s individual performances this season underscore his importance to the team. In the Bundesliga, he has tallied nine goals and six assists. He’s also scored once in both the UEFA Champions League and the DFB-Pokal.
Bayern will be hoping to see more of that impact next week. After losing 2–1 to Inter Milan in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal on Tuesday, the Bavarian side heads to Milan for the return leg on Wednesday—a match that could further shape both their European ambitions and Sané’s role in the club’s future.
